Problem with iMac's for serious color managed work.

The biggest problem with iMac's for serious color managed work is that the backlight control does not allow sufficient dimming for use in low luminance conditions. We plan to institute a "white luminance in software" adjustment to a future update of Spyder3Elite to assist with this problem, but it’s a compromise to limit this in software, the right answer would be for Apple to provide sufficient dimming capabilities in the displays.

An actual brightness control allows you to adjust black point, which is most useful when matching multiple screens side by side, the lack of it on your iMac (and most other LCDs) shouldn't really be a problem.
