I'm curious about the much larger aperture that Spyder3 offers, over both older Spyders, and competing devices. What's the advantage of this?

Any photographer will tell you that a larger lens will capture more light, allowing for higher quality, lower noise results. Its the same with display calibrators: a larger aperture gathers more light, and also allows the device to sample a larger area of the screen. So instead of basing its measurements on separate, tiny pinholes for red, green, and blue, and hoping that the areas sampled are similar to one another, and representative of your screen at large, the Spyder3 views a large section of the screen for all colors. The benefit of this is more consistent, more representative measurements from your screen.
