Unable to Create and/or Activate an ICC Profile in Windows 10 May 2019 Update (Windows 10, Build 1903) - SpyderX, Spyder5 and Spyder4

We found the problem that SpyderX, Spyder5 and Spyder4 may not create (save / overwrite) and/or activate the ICC profile correctly in Windows 10 May 2019 Update (Windows 10, Build 1903). Due to this problem, the correct color might not be displayed.

Microsoft has confirmed that there can be issues with color profiles after the 1903 update.

Please check this to resolve:
Check with your Windows 10 manually for new updates. Microsoft has released patch on July 26th: KB4505903 - that fixes some of these issue. IF YOUR Windows Update function reports no new updates, that patch is already installed. You can check this in the Windows Update history.
If you have already installed the new Windows 10 Build 1909 version, this issue should be also solved.

If that patch is not / can not installed in your system (have a look at the Windows 10 Update history), you can try this workaround:

  • Un-install your Spyder software.
  • Delete the folder "Datacolor" from here: C:\Program Files (x86)\ and from here: C:\users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\ (the folder AppData may be hidden)
  • Next reboot your system.
  • Download and install with full admin rights and deactivated antivirus program the current software version.

Please note:
Sometimes you need to do a right mouse click -> run as admin instead of a double click to start an application with admin rights granted.

Activate the Spyder software with your license code.

  • Run the software also with full admin rights. Please remember: Sometimes you need to do a right mouse click -> run as admin instead of a double click to start an application with admin rights granted.
  • Now run a FullCAL (NOT a ReCAL)

It is possible that the issue may reoccur in future calibration.
The problem is a Microsoft Windows 10 Build 1093 problem. Also other manufacturers have such problems and provide information on this issue.

  • Please try this now: Launch the Spyder software with full administrator permissions – do a right mouse click -> run as admin instead of a double click to start the Spyder software.

We have found some customers had to disable the "DisplayEnhancementService" in their Windows configurations to be able to use the provided workaround. The "DisplayEnhancementService" is e.g. in charge for an auto display brightness adjust and also accesses the profiles. Please disable the "DisplayEnhancementService" (the name can be localized in some Windows language versions) in the Windows system. Reboot your computer and DO NOT launch any other applications. Launch the Spyder software with full administrator permissions as explained before.

We also found that on few systems it was recommended to disable Windows 10 "Fast Startup" function to make sure the profiles are loaded correctly on Windows 10 1903 (May 2019 Update).
